A happy home means a happy customer. That's why we love passing along stories about some of the many families whose homes are now more comfortable, healthier, and more energy efficient. Yours could be next!

COMFORTABLE LIVING

Shortly after moving into a new home in Redwood Shores, a man contacted planet orange because the second story of his home was always hot while the first floor remained cold. It had gotten to the point that his wife didn't want to bring their 18-month-old son downstairs in the morning until the heat had been turned up because the floors on the first floor were so cold and he hated it. Of course that meant that when the first floor finally warmed up, the second floor was like a sauna. planet orange's certified Energy Auditors went to work, testing the systems with an emphasis on the ducts and furnace. It took our technicians five hours to re-insulate the ducts, add and replace weatherstripping on the doors and windows, and rebalance the baffles in the HVAC system. No sooner were the technicians finished than the man said, "Wow! I can feel the difference already, it's amazing!"

A HEALTHY HOME

A couple in Saratoga called because the master bedroom was colder than any other room in the house, and that's where his wife, who was on oxygen due to respiratory problems, spent a lot of her time. During the Home Energy Audit, our technicians discovered that the main heating duct in the crawl space beneath the house had a crack that exposed a 12" hole at a junction immediately before the bedroom, meaning most of the heat was being lost. Even worse, the hole was sucking up loose bits of Fiberglas insulation—a known respiratory irritant—and pumping it into the bedroom. Our licensed, bonded technicians repaired the ductwork, then removed the Fiberglas insulation and replaced it with environmentally safe UltraTouch™ denim insulation. Hello warm, irritant-free bedroom!

ENERGY SAVINGS (AND MONEY SAVINGS, TOO)

A family in Morgan Hill found that their energy costs were spiraling. In August 2008 the PG&E bill for their 4,600 sq. ft. house was $931. Their home had a total of 36 windows and seven exterior glass doors, so there were plenty of ways for heat to get in! planet orange performed an exhaustive energy audit and as a result installed solar window film on all south and west facing windows, put environmentally friendly UltraTouch™ denim insulation in the attic and crawl space, repaired and replaced the weatherstripping around the windows and doors, and upgraded the furnace and air condenser to a 98% efficient model. The result? The next August their PG&E bill had shrunk to $281! At that rate they'll recoup their costs in less than two years. That's what's known as many happy returns!
